WebRemove the directory from your Steam install directories temporarily. While it's removed, rename it. Then, re-add back the renamed one. I do this as part of my backup scheme. I just rsync all of the SteamApps directory to my backup location and when/if I re-install, I just copy over SteamApps and then add it into the fresh Steam installation.
