It doesn't mean an unusually big, it literally means giant. Since ticks are normally tiny, I thought that meant like, the size of a dwarf because the art style sure makes it look small.

At 100FPS (default max) 403200 ticks (a year) elapses in about an hour. Obviously time does not flow when the simulation is paused.
